The promise of it drew brave men and women to distant shores to start a new life under a new concept—self-government.
Those patriots taught their children about freedom—what they sacrificed to obtain it and how they must work to maintain it. They knew that freedom will only endure as long as citizens are willing to uphold and defend it.
For nearly two centuries, Hillsdale College has taught generations of students what they must know in order to preserve the legacy of freedom our American ancestors began. Arming the minds of students—on campus, in K-12 classrooms, and in online courses—with knowledge of the timeless truths of human nature is our enduring mission.
But together, we can and we must do more.
We must radiate this education beyond our campus, teaching Americans of all ages—anytime, anywhere—to know that which is good, true, and beautiful.
For that is the path to preserving the blessings of freedom, for another 250 years and beyond.

We live in an age that is dangerous but promising. It is dangerous in its inclination toward tyranny. It is promising in the mass of people who recognize the threat and seek a way back to freedom.
We at the College think that the answer to tyranny is teaching. Since 1844, we have taught generations of students here on our campus the things necessary for the preservation of freedom. We have become the best at that. We have held to it through some of the greatest storms in our nation's history, including today's.
Beyond our campus, there are millions more who want to learn from us. We have built the means to teach them, and we want to make those means stronger and to teach even more. We think this is the way to save the country.
And then there are people like you, without whose friendship we could not teach. You learn with us and help us radiate the work of the College everywhere.
Our new capital campaign, the Teaching Freedom for Generations Campaign, is dedicated to teaching all who wish today, and for years to come, what it means to be a free people. We will make that work big in the years ahead, with your help.

Scholarships
$322MFor more than 40 years, Hillsdale College has replaced all federally funded financial aid with a generous privately funded scholarship program, standing firm in its historic commitment to independent education and refusing to accept so much as one penny of direct or indirect federal aid. In order to ensure our academic and operational freedom for generations to come, we must continue to add scholarships not only for undergraduate students, but also for our graduate programs in classical education and government.
Support ScholarshipsCapital Projects
$207.4MThe path to Teaching Freedom for Generations begins on our campus. The student body has increased by 30 percent, and our floor space has increased by a third as well. With a competitive undergraduate program, three graduate programs, a K-12 Education Office supporting more than 100 schools, and campus visitors numbering in the tens of thousands each year, we must expand our facilities to serve our mission.
Support Capital ProjectsOperations
$185MA gift to support Hillsdale's general operations is a gift that allows Hillsdale to continue doing what it has been doing for more than 180 years—teaching students the best of what's been thought and said. General operations cover the annual needs that keep the College humming day to day—classroom and library supplies, faculty salaries, student activities, campus maintenance, and so much more. Each gift contributes to Hillsdale's mission and enhances our ability to provide a quality education to students for generations to come.
Support OperationsProgram Endowments
$179MEndowing faculty chairs, programs such as online courses, K-12 education, and National Leadership Seminars, and the Imprimis monthly speech digest enables Hillsdale to take its classical liberal arts education well beyond its campus classrooms to a national audience. By bearing the costs of such programs and initiatives, Hillsdale can provide free resources and learning to Americans hungry for truth and longing to preserve our hard-fought freedoms for generations more.
